Battle on the Bricks set for Saturday

Everyone is invited to downtown Lindsay this weekend, Sat., July 23 at 3:00 p.m., in celebration of past and present, for the Lindsay community’s first ever “Battle on the Bricks” cornhole tournament.
The event will be held at the corner of Main and Broomcorn Streets in the heart of the Broomcorn Capital of the world.
There will also be a bounce house and other inflatables, food trucks, a live band, and broomcorn equipment on display, along with other fun and entertainment.
Long before the advent of modern sweeping devices and synthetic broom heads, folks tidied up the house with brooms bearing naturally grown stems from broomcorn.
Between 1915 and 1946, Oklahoma led the nation in broomcorn production, and the “Lindsay District” led the state, thus crowning Lindsay the Broomcorn Capital of the world. During this era, Lindsay’s brick Main Street was known as the Wall Street of broomcorn.
The broomcorn boom days may be long gone, but our community’s love and appreciation for millet is being rekindled. That’s the word from event organizer, Robert Brooks.
After expenses, proceeds from the event go toward prizes for the contestants.
Players in the cornhole tournament may register at the time of the event, but are encouraged to do so online at 2022battleonthebricks.rsvpify.com.
