Chili Corral Cafe set

The unofficial Opening Day of the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays is here! Yes, the United Methodist Church of Lindsay is hosting their annual Chili Corral Cafe on Fri., Nov. 22 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., according to Barbara Thomas.

“We’ll be serving bowls of delicious, homemade chili! The chili comes with or without beans, and all the extras to add to the chili:  Fritos, onions, jalapenos, ketchup, mustard, and hot sauce. Homemade chicken salad sandwiches and pimento cheese sandwiches will also be available. Desserts of all kinds will round out the delicious meal,” Ms. Thomas added.

There will also be some baked goods and booths available for additional shopping.

Take-out orders will be accepted. Call-in orders are available, and may also be picked up in the alley adjacent to the church.

Happy 100th Birthday Amos Smith!

Lindsay resident, Amos Smith – a World War II veteran, and just a heck of a good guy – will celebrate his 100th birthday on Sat., Nov. 23, according to Loyd Adams.

The celebration begins at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Lindsay, located at 401 S.W. 3rd St.

The celebration will serve as a reunion for the Adams, Gainer, Kinard, McCaleb, and Smith families, as well. 

“We’ll provide cake for Amos’s party, and we ask everyone to bring a covered dish and soft drinks. Please bring pictures to share, also,” Mr. Adams added. “We hope all of our family and friends will come celebrate with us.”

Purcell’s ‘Lights From the Heart’ opens tonight

Purcell’s 13th annual ‘Lights From the Heart’ opens Thanksgiving Eve, according to a news release.

The drive-through opens at 5:30 p.m. nightly from Thanksgiving Eve through New Year’s Eve, Mon., Dec. 31. Sundays through Thursdays, the hours are 5:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays, the hours are 5:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.

The two-mile drive around the Purcell City Lake features over 650,000 lights, including a 75-foot-tall Christmas tree. 

Everyone is invited to take Selfies with Santa on Saturday nights in December.

‘Light From the Heart’ is free of charge, but donations are welcome. The beautiful display is located in Purcell, just off I-35, at exits 91 and 95.

The lights are made possible by individuals, businesses, volunteers, city employees, the city of Purcell, the city council and the Purcell Tourism Advisory Board.

5th Friday Artwalk set in Pauls Valley

The Pauls Valley Arts Council presents their 5th Friday Artwalk in downtown Pauls Valley on Fri., Nov. 29, according to a news release.

There will be art, music, food and fun from 5:55 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

The Artwalk features The Arts & Cultural Center, Stark Art Gallery, The Vault Gallery, Valley Blossom Shop, and the gallery. There will also be FREE admission to The Toy & Action Figure Museum.  

The “Treasures” art market will also be in full swing from Fri., Nov. 29 through Sun., Dec. 1, and the Pauls Valley Ice Rink opens Fri., Nov. 29.

Special guest set to be at Opry awards show

The Pauls Valley Opry is happy to welcome Ray Hollis as a performer on stage at the 2019 Awards Show on Sat., Dec. 7, according to Becky Hill. 

Ray and his wife, Jan, are Pastors of TheGathering.tv in Oklahoma City, the church at the beautiful new Cole Community Center, located at 4400 N.W. Expressway. While music is an important part of The Gathering, another important facet is Deaf Ministry. The Gathering provides certified interpreters for each experience. Nothing is more beautiful than to see sign language used during worship.

Ray, a longtime friend of Woodie and Becky Hill, has served as a music minister, youth pastor, and pastor for many years. He is truly an anointed songwriter, musician and worship leader and has several albums to his credit.

Ray is writing new songs every week. New postings are available on his Facebook page. 

“These are normally raw and unproduced songs before they are recorded at the studio, and you can be the first to listen to them before you hear them on a CD or on the Radio,” Ms. Hill added.

“Join the fun at the Pauls Valley Opry as we also welcome guests Missy Rude, Wiley Winters, Molly Herrod, Anne young and Paul Lopez, as well as announcing the winners of the 2019 Male and Female Vocalists of the Year, Male and Female Horizon Winners, Entertainer of the Year, and Pauls Valley Opry Hall of Fame winners,” Ms. Hill conluded.  

The show begins at 6:30 pm at the Pauls Valley High School auditorium.

Christmas at the Mansion set for Sun., Dec. 1

The Murray-Lindsay Mansion in Erin Springs will be decked out in her Christmas finery to show Christmas of the Past at the annual Christmas at the Mansion celebration. Lindsay Community Historical Society president, Shawn Bridwell, invites visitors to a walk-through tour of the Mansion on Sun., Dec. 1 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. 

This is an opportunity to see how Christmas looked in the historic 1882 Mansion. 

The Pikes Peak School, built in 1908, is also decorated for the Christmas season, and will be open for tours at the same time. Pikes Peak History books will be available for purchase at the school.

Refreshments of cider, punch, snacks and cookies will be served. Parents are invited to bring their cameras for pictures with Santa. 

Santa’s helpers will be on hand to give a gift from under the tree to each child. 

This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the upkeep of the Murray-Lindsay Mansion and the Pikes Peak School, and all donations are appreciated.The Murray-Lindsay Mansion and Pikes Peak School are located south of Lindsay on Hwy. 76, then west at Erin Springs. Donations needed for Joy Store/Food Baskets

The Joy Store and Food Basket program in Lindsay feeds and gives toys to numerous families and senior citizens of Lindsay during the Christmas season, according to Lindsay Chamber of Commerce manager, Violet Henderson. 

The Joy Store and Food Basket programs rely strictly on donations to keep this program going. 

Any donations of food or unwrapped toys received will be greatly appreciated. Cash donations are always welcome and appreciated.

Area teams head to second round of playoffs

Three area High School football teams are headed to the second round of playoffs this week, Fri., Nov. 22. The Lindsay Leopards head to Eufaula to take on the Eufaula Ironheads, the Dibble Demons head to Mangum to take on the Mangum Tigers, and the Alex Longhorns host the Laverne Tigers. Games begin at 7:30 p.m.

On Sat., Nov. 23, the University of Oklahoma hosts the TCU Horned Frogs, and Oklahoma State University travels to West Virginia to take on the Mountaineers.

Garvin County Retired Educators to meet today

The Garvin County Retired Educators Association meet today, Wed., Nov. 20, at 10:00 a.m., according to Terry Ann Pitmon, President.

The meeting will be held at the Pauls Valley Chamber of Commerce meeting room, located at 112 E. Paul in Pauls Valley.

A representative of Reavis Pharmacy will be doing a program on changes to the Medicare prescription program.

Lindsay community Thanksgiving dinner set

The annual Lindsay Community Thanksgiving Dinner is set for Thurs., Nov. 28, Thanksgiving Day, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., according to John Collins.

The dinner will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 410 W. Chickasaw in Lindsay.

“Donations are greatly appreciated. Usually 500 or more people are being fed at this event; some years many more,” Mr. Collins went on to say. 

An account has been set up at the American Exchange Bank of Lindsay for the Community Thanksgiving Dinner. Donations can be taken to American Exchange Bank, at 402 S. Main in Lindsay, or arrangements can be made to pick them up, as well.

“We will need volunteers to help Wednesday afternoon before Thanksgiving in prepping the food, along with volunteers for Thanksgiving Day,” Mr. Collins continued.

Elmore City hosts 21st annual FREE Thanksgiving dinner

The First Baptist Church of Elmore City is hosting their 21st annual FREE COMMUNITY-WIDE Thanksgiving Dinner today, Wed., Nov.e 20 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., according to a news release.

The dinner will be held in the Family Life Center at the church.  

This will be a traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey, ham, cornbread dressing, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, and dessert.  

Members of the church encourage everyone to come dine in with them at the festive dinner.

Bedlam Blood Battle is set for Thursday

Just in time for the Bedlam game between the state’s two largest universities, Oklahoma University and Oklahoma State University, the Lindsay Community Blood Drive is set to hold the Bedlam Blood Battle this week, on Thurs., Nov. 21, according to Lacy Curry.

The blood drive will be held at the First Baptist Church gym, from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The church is located at 401 S.W. 3rd in Lindsay. 

All donors get their choice of an OU or OSU t-shirt!

The blood drive is put on by the Oklahoma Blood Institute and South Central Medical and Resource Center. 

All healthy adults, 16 years and older, are encouraged to give. Donations take about an hour and can be made every 56 days.

Pauls Valley Opry award finalists announced

The Pauls Valley Opry is proud to announce the finalists for awards to be given at the Pauls Valley Opry 2019 Awards show on Sat., Dec. 7, according to Becky Hill.
Awards include 2019 Male and Female Vocalist of the Year, 2019 Male and Female Horizon winners, and the 2019 Pauls Valley Opry Hall of Fame inductees.

Christmas parade set for Sat., Dec. 7 in Lindsay

“My Hometown Christmas” is the theme for Lindsay’s Christmas parade, set for Sat., Dec. 7 at 6:00 p.m., according to Lindsay Chamber of Commerce manager, Violet Henderson.

Prizes will be awarded for the best floats. The first-place prize in the Religious and Traditional Categories will be $200.00; second place in same categories will be $100.00. The commercial category will receive a plaque for first and second places. 

The parade is free for anyone wanting to participate. “Everyone come out and enjoy this kick-off to the Christmas season!” Ms. Henderson went on to say.

Pauls Valley Ice Rink to be open soon

The Pauls Valley Ice Rink is set to be open the weekend of Thanksgiving, on Fri., Nov. 29, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., on Sat., Nov. 30 from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and on Sun., Dec. 1 from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., according to a news release.

The ice rink is sponsored by Pauls Valley Tourism, and will be an outdoor rink in downtown Pauls Valley, at 1 Santa Fe Plaza, next to the Santa Fe Depot museum.

The ice rink will also be open daily through Sun., Jan. 5, subject to weather and bookings. Daily hours are Monday through Thursday, 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Fridays, 3:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., Saturdays, 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., and Sundays 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. 

Holiday hours (Mon., Dec. 16 through Sun., Jan. 5) are Monday through Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., and Sundays, 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Ice skate sizes range from child size 7 to adult size 13.

The popular Bible Trivia program on KBLP Radio 105.1 FM is running now for the holiday season of Thanksgiving and Christmas, according to their ad in this edition of the Shopper News Note. 

Bible Trivia runs through Fri., Nov. 22, and then Mon., Dec. 2 through Fri., Dec. 20 two times daily, Monday through Friday. There will be a Bible Trivia question at 10:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. for a chance to win a pecan pie.

Seniors, ages 60 and over, are invited to have lunch Monday through Friday at the Lindsay Senior Nutrition Center. That’s the word from site manager, Kelly Riddle.

“We have a variety of wonderful food. Mondays after lunch, we play Bingo with prizes. Almost daily, some people stay and play Dominoes,” Ms. Riddle went on to say.

“If you would like to join us, or if you know someone who could use our delivery service, give us a call. We would love to see you,” Ms. Riddle added.

The Lindsay Nutrition Center is located at 310 W. Choctaw in Lindsay, and serves lunch meals Monday through Friday.

Holiday Hop is under way in Lindsay

Lindsay’s Christmas promotion, the Holiday Hop, is in full swing. The Lindsay Chamber of Commerce sponsors the festive promotion that runs through Thurs., Dec. 5, according to Violet Henderson. 

A basket full of gift items from participating businesses will be awarded to the winner on Sat., Dec. 7 at 5:45 p.m., just before the Christmas parade. Participants must be present to win.
