Mystery Dinner/Silent Auction set in Lindsay

Perfect for Valentine’s Day, ‘The Dinner Detective’ Mystery Dinner Theater and Silent Auction is coming to Lindsay, according to Jessica Parker of PASS Coalition.

“Join us Valentine’s Day evening, Fri., Feb. 14, for appetizers, a catered dinner, a Valentine-worthy dessert, and a wonderful mystery, plus Silent Auction,” Ms. Parker added.

“No need to hassle with long drives and big cities when you can enjoy a Valentine’s night out close to home!” Ms. Parker went on to say. 

A reception, including appetizers of meat, cheese, fresh fruit, and crackers, begins at 5:30 p.m., and will be followed by the mystery, ‘The Dinner Detective’, a plated meal, and dessert.

The dinner will be salad, smoked chicken breast, roasted potatoes, greens beans and roll, and the dessert will be chocolate cake with strawberries. 

The Silent Auction includes vacations and experiences, such as trips to Cancun, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Broadway Shows, Disney, Wrigley Field, Caribbean Cruise, National Finals Rodeo, US Open, and Churchill Downs. Autographed items from President Donald J. Trump, Jimmy Buffett, Kobe Bryant, Rod Stewart, and Star Wars’ Carrie Fisher will also be available for bids. Other items include Kendra Scott jewelry, OKC Dodgers game pack, a beauty basket, indoor pool and pizza party, and more.

“There will be something for everyone up for bid!” Ms. Parker continued.

The Dinner Detective is a nationally acclaimed dinner theater show coming to Lindsay for a very special private event benefiting the PASS Coalition. 

Downtown Kaleb Brown is the host for the special event.

The two-hour mystery dinner show will be held at the REC Multi-Purpose Center, located at 801 REC Blvd. in Lindsay.

REC tree giveaway set for Sat., Feb. 15

Rural Electric Cooperative has over 2,900 miles of electric distribution lines and clearing trees is an on-going project. One of the ways REC can provide reliable, affordable electric power is through its right-of-way clearing program which includes pruning, removals, and chemical control. In addition to removing trees, REC crews also prune new growth during their daily routines.

REC’s tree giveaway program helps replace trees the Cooperative must remove from under its power lines. These trees are provided to the members as a way for the Cooperative to help replace one of our natural resources.

  Rural Electric Cooperative’s annual tree giveaway for its members will be held Sat., Feb. 15 beginning at 8:00 a.m.

Employees of REC will be in Lindsay, Elmore City, Maysville and Rush Springs to give members trees during the Cooperative’s Operation Tree Planting/Replacement Program. Members will each receive up to 10 trees.

“REC’s mission is to ‘enhance the quality of life’ for our members,” Ed Bevers, Manager of Engineering said. “Besides the benefits of electric power, REC provides environmental and aesthetic enhancements through our tree giveaway, and we work for a bright future in partnership with our members.”

  Employees of the Cooperative will be at the Walmart parking lot in Lindsay, located at the junction of Highways 19 and 76; in front of the office of Kyle Jones Community Insurance Agency in Rush Springs, located at 303 W. Blakely Street; the parking lot of Worth Every Bite in Maysville, located at 314 6th Street and the parking area of Speedy G’s in Elmore City, located at 22964 Highway 29.

  The types of trees available are Loblolly Pines and Sawtooth Oaks.

Loblolly Pines are one of the most common pine trees. This North American native has dark green needles with narrow, red-brown pinecones about three to six inches long. These trees grow to be about 60 to 90 feet tall and have a spread of 25 to 35 feet wide once they reach maturity.

Sawtooth Oak is one of the fastest growing trees in its youth. It is an attractive shade tree with dark lustrous summer foliage and clear yellow to golden brown fall leaves. These trees grow to be 40 to 60 feet tall and have a spread of 40 to 60 feet wide.

  The Cooperative requests members to not plant trees any closer than 30 feet of our electric power lines. This will allow the trees to mature without requiring trimming or removal in the future.

Daddy~Daughter dance is Sat., Feb. 29

It’s about that time! Beta Sigma Phi’s fourth annual Daddy~Daughter Dance, ‘Wild About You”, is set for Sat., Feb. 29, according to Gena Fletcher.

The dance begins at 6:00 p.m., and ends at 8:00 p.m. It will be held in the Lindsay School Cafeteria, located at the corner of S.W. 8th and Creek Streets in Lindsay.

This is a chance for the girls to get all dolled up, and their dads or father figures should dress to impress her. 

All Pre-K thru 12th grade girls are welcome to attend with their Dad or Father figure, and dance the night away! Refreshments will be served. 

“This is a night of dancing, having fun, and making memories. We hope you’ll plan to attend this event with your daughter,” Ms. Fletcher added.  

Reservations aren’t required, but are appreciated. There is an entry fee for each daddy/daughter couple, plus a fee for each additional daughter.

SNN/SOS to remain open for Presidents’ Day

“Spread the Love” food drive continues

The Delta Community Action Foundation, Inc. is calling on the public to help “Spread the Love” during the month of Febrtuary, according to Becky Deaton.

“Delta is having a peanut butter and jelly food drive to help local citizens in need of food,” explained Ms. Deaton.Donations can be dropped off at the following Delta Community Action locations:

Pauls Valley:  225 W. McClure

Shirley’s clothes closet temporarily closed

The Erin Springs Church of God’s clothing closet, also called Shirley’s Closet, is being reorganized, and will be closed for a couple of months, according to Linda Brothers.

Pulled pork lunch set at area church

Pulled pork sandwiches are on the menu for lunch on Fri., Feb. 21 at Lindsay’s Living Sanctuary Church, according to Cindy Grumbles.

Lunch will be served from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the church, located at 111 E. Creek in Lindsay.

“We’ll be serving our delicious pulled pork sandwiches,” Ms. Grumbles explained. “The meal includes a sandwich, potato salad, pickles and onions, dessert and drink.”

“We have a new dessert, along with our usual homemade desserts,” Ms. Grumbles went on to say. “And we also offer dine-in and take-out.”

Garvin County Retired Educators set to meet

The Garvin County Retired Educators Association will meet on Wed., Feb. 26 at 10:00 a.m., according to Terry Ann Pitmon.

The meeting will be held at the Pauls Valley Chamber

of Commerce meeting room, located at 112 E. Paul Avenue in Pauls Valley.  

The scheduled speaker is Sabra Tucker, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association.

Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma to be in Elmore City

The Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma will be in concert at the First Baptist Church of Elmore City on Thurs., Mar. 5 at 7:00 p.m., according to a news release.

10 candidates file for Lindsay City Council

Ten candidates have filed for three open positions on the Lindsay City Council, according to the Garvin County Election Board Secretary, Doylene Cunningham. 

The candidates are, in no particular order, Devin Herrod, Randy Hugo, Greg Henderson, Brad Smith, Lynn Scruggs, Kassi Turner, Eric Dodson, Robin Staggs, Shelly Stevens, and Debbie Whitehead.

The election is Tues., Apr. 7.

The Lindsay City Council positions are non-paid posistions, and are elected on an At-Large basis.

Candidates who have filed for unpaid offices may run a short biography in the Shopper News Note announcing their candidacy for FREE, according to Publisher, Holly Belknap.

That’s right! Candidates who get their biography and picture to the Shopper News Note by 9:00 a.m. on the second Monday following the filing, will get to run it for FREE. (For candidates in Lindsay’s City Council race, that deadline is 9:00 a.m. on Mon., Feb. 24.

It’s Girl Scout Cookie time!

It’s Girl Scout Cookie time in Oklahoma! Yep. It’s true, according to Lindsay Girl Scout Troop leader, Victoria Gregg.

“Right now, the girls are selling door-to-door, and we’ll start booth sales on Fri., Feb. 14,” Ms. Gregg explained.

Popular cookie flavors available are Lemon-Ups, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Girl Scout S’mores, Samoas, Do-Si-Dos,  and Thin Mints.

Jr. Class Parents host Parents’ Night Out

“Let the Jr. Class parents watch your kiddos Thurs., Feb. 13th, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.” That’s the word from Lindsay High School Jr. Class parent Nicki Dewoody.

Parents may bring their children to the First Baptist Church in Lindsay, located at 401 S.W. 3rd, and leave them for the evening, so the parents can enjoy a night out.

Elementary kids are welcome for the evening. There will be movies available, as well as face painting, pizza, and games. 

Advance tickets are available at a discounted price. Additional siblings are welcome at a lower price. At the door, prices are a bit higher. 

Parents are asked to call or text 405-488-5604 for  tickets. That way, there will be enough snacks and pizza available.

All proceeds go to the After Prom Party for the Lindsay High School Junior and Senior classes.
