School Board filings begin Mon., Dec. 7

Candidates for the Board of Education in area school districts will file their Declarations of Candidacy beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Mon., Dec. 7, and continuing Tues., Dec. 8 and Wed., Dec. 9, according to Election Board Secretaries. 

The official filing period ends at 5:00 p.m. on Wed., Dec. 9. All candidate filings will occur at the County Election Board offices.

The Board of Education positions at stake will be filled at the Board of Education Primary Election scheduled Tues., Feb. 9, 2021 and the Board of Education General Election on Tues., Apr. 6, 2021. If only two candidates file, the position will be filled at the General Election. If more than two candidates file, a Primary Election will be held. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the total votes cast in the Primary Election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in the General Election.

The Garvin County Election Board is located inside the Garvin County Courthouse in Pauls Valley, First Floor, Room 8.  

The McClain County Election Board office is in Room 101, at 121 N. 2nd Ave. in Purcell (inside the McClain County Courthouse).

The Grady County Election Board office is located in the District Attorney Complex at 307 W. Pennsylvania Ave. in Chickasha.


Holiday Hop is HERE!!!

Hop on into the Christmas holidays with Lindsay’s Christmas promotion, the Holiday Hop! The Lindsay Chamber of Commerce sponsors the festive promotion that runs through Thurs., Dec. 10, according to Chamber manager Clara Doan.  

A basket full of gift items from participating businesses will be awarded to the winner on Sat., Dec. 12 at 6:45 p.m., just before the Christmas parade. Participants must be present to win.

Participating businesses include AN Nail & Spa, Ann’s Grill, American Exchange Bank, Antique Connection, Backroads Boutique, Boomarang, Canna Station, Car Care, DeSign-It, Donut Palace, Dutton Farm & Supply, First National Bank, Geffre’s, Gonzalez Mexican REstaurant, Hot Mess Coffee, IBC Bank, J&J Liquor Store, Jake’s Short Stop, KBLP Radio, Lindsay Family Dentistry, Lindsay Medical Plaza, Lindsay Veterinary Hospital, Lorri Ann’s, Love’s, Okie Cleaners, Physical Therapy Central, Pizza Hut, Rowdy Riddles Boutique, Sassy Sparkles, Shopper News Note, Sonic Sunshine Suds, State Farm, Super C Mart, Sweet Pea’s Flowers & Gifts, Tabor’s Drug, Tanglz SH Boutique, TH Rogers, Walmart, and The Wright Cut.

Holiday Hop cards are available at participating businesses and at the Chamber office. 

Patrons will be able to visit participating businesses to have their Holiday Hop card stamped. Once the card is full, with six different stamps, the patron turns it in to the Chamber office. No purchase is necessary to have the Holiday Hop cards stamped, and there can be only one card per day.

Thanksgiving dinner set in Lindsay

The annual Lindsay Community Thanksgiving Dinner is set for Thurs., Nov. 26, Thanksgiving Day, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., according to John Collins.

The dinner will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 410 W. Chickasaw in Lindsay, BUT it will be handled a little differently this year.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 issues, this year’s Community Thanksgiving dinner will be delivery and carry-out only. 

“While we do enjoy your company, your safety means even more to us,” Mr. Collins explained.

“Donations are greatly appreciated. Usually 500 or more people are being fed at this event; some years many more,” Mr. Collins went on to say. 

An account has been set up at the American Exchange Bank of Lindsay for the Community Thanksgiving Dinner. Donations can be taken to American Exchange Bank, at 402 S. Main in Lindsay, or arrangements can be made to pick them up, as well.

“We will need volunteers to help Wednesday afternoon before Thanksgiving in prepping the food, along with volunteers for Thanksgiving Day,” Mr. Collins continued.

Sunday–Fundraiser set for Wescott family

A spaghetti dinner and silent auction fundraiser are set for Sun., Oct. 18 for Steve and Vicki Wescott to help with medical bills and expenses, according to a news release. 

The event will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the REC Multi-Purpose Center, on Hwy. 76N in Lindsay. The meal will be spaghetti, garlic bread, dessert and drink. There is no set price; donations will be accepted. 

Drive-thru is available, and there will be limited seating inside. Delivery is available inside Lindsay city limits.

Mr. Wescott has been battling cancer since January of 2018. He’s had surgeries to amputate both legs at the calf, but more has had to be removed. He currently has a feed tube that causes quite a bit of trouble. He is facing tough battles on a daily basis, travels frequently to doctor visits in Oklahoma City, has frequent hospital stays, and his wife, Vicki, is only able to work part of the time.

PASS Coalition annual meeting set Tomorrow!!


The PASS Coalition will hold its annual meeting and election on Thurs., Oct. 8, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., according to Jessica Parker.

The meeting will be held in the SCMRC Board Room, located at 217 S. Main in Lindsay. 

Lunch will be sponsored by Cindy Grumbles, Mallorie Jones, and Living Sanctuary Fellowship.
