This weekend in Lindsay –

Baseball/softball alumni to gather

Lindsay High School (LHS) alums are invited to play in the alumni baseball and softball games this weekend, according to Kourtney Bearden and Rulissa Jones.

There will be an alumni game for both programs. The softball game is set for Fri., July 26 at 6:00 p.m., and the baseball game is set for Sat., July 27 at 11:00 a.m.  A home run derby for the baseball players will start at 10:00 a.m. prior to the baseball game.

“We’d love to have LHS alums back to show them some of the changes that have been made to our facilities, and to support our current players,” Ms. Jones added. 

“Also, it doesn’t matter if they played in high school, they just need to be Lindsay graduates,” Ms. Jones went on to say.

Hamburgers, hotdogs, and concessions will be sold at each game.

All money raised from these events will go to the booster clubs of each of these programs.

LHS students may pick up schedules soon

Class schedules for Lindsay High School (LHS) students will be available in the high school office, according to a news release.

Those who are unable to go on their designated day may pick their schedule up after the day they are assigned.

Class schedules are available on the following dates and times:

• Mon., Aug. 5 Seniors 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

• Tues., Aug. 6 Juniors 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

• Wed., Aug. 7 Sophomores      9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

• Thurs., Aug. 8 Freshmen  9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

• Fri., Aug. 9 New Students 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Open House is set for Tues., Aug. 13 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Freshmen Orientation will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the High School auditorium on the evening of Open House.

Ice cream and fun are on tap at Pikes Peak

“Come on out to the Pikes Peak School and cool down with us at our Ice Cream Social!” That’s the word from Thelma Love, with the Lindsay Community Historical Society.

  “The most tastiest” homemade ice cream EVER will be served Sat., July 27, beginning at 5:00 p.m.

“This is an event you will not want to miss!” Ms. Love added.  

The ridiculously fun outdoor games of water ball war, corn hole, hula hoop contest and relay races will be put on by the PASS Coalition for the kids.

“Cool off inside our 111-year-old Pikes Peak two-room air-conditioned school building, and enjoy the old school photos, original school desks, and the original curtain that hung inside the school, advertising local businesses of the day,” Ms. Love went on to say.

Donations are appreciated for this annual fundraiser to help preserve this little white school house. Pikes Peak History Books, full of interesting stories of families of the area, will be on sale.  

The Pikes Peak School Museum is located across from the Murray-Lindsay Mansion in Erin Springs, at 13510 E. County Road 1520 in Lindsay, or two miles south of the intersection of Hwys. 19 and 76, then one-half mile west. Signs for the Murray-Lindsay Mansion are posted.

Leopard Little League football camp set

The Lindsay Quarterback Club will be hosting a skills development camp for the little league football programs on Mon., Aug. 5 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., according to Ursula Perry.

There is a cost of the camp per athlete, plus a lower additional fee for each additional sibling. All proceeds go to support the Quarterback Club. Checks may be made out to the Lindsay Quarterback Club.  

This is not a padded camp, so athletes only need to

wear t-shirts, shorts, and cleats. Varsity coaches and current football players will organize and direct the drills.

LMS schedule pick-up dates set 

Lindsay Middle School (LMS) students will be able to pick up their class schedules in the middle school office soon, according to a news release.

Class schedules are available on the following dates:

• Tues., Aug. 6 Eighth Grade

• Wed., Aug. 7 Seventh Grade

• Thurs., Aug. 8 Sixth Grade 

The Lindsay Middle School office is open from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Open House is set for Tues., Aug. 13 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

VBS continues at Linday Methodist Church

The United Methodist Church of Lindsay continues Vacation Bible School (VBS) through Fri., July 26, according to Lacie Wilkins.

VBS will be held each day from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the church, located at 114 W. Chickasaw in Lindsay.

Cokesbury’s ‘To Mars & Beyond’ is the theme for VBS. Children will hear stories, make crafts, play games, and have snacks during VBS. 

VBS is for children who have completed Pre-K and fourth grade, and everything in between!

Family plots need to be re-marked at Purdy

People who have markers for future family plots at the Purdy Cemetery are asked to re-mark their family burial plots that they’ve already requested, according to LaVern Russell, with the Board of the Purdy Cemetery Association.

“Due to ground sinking from weather, markers need to be raised. We also ask that the user’s name be applied to the markers,” Ms. Russell added.

Ceramics classes are available in Lindsay

The Lindsay Okie Ceramics Club meets on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., according to Kathy Riddle.

The classes are held at 801 N. Industrial Drive, in the south building, in Lindsay.

Tent revival starts today at Fairoak Pentecostal

An old-fashioned tent revival begins this evening, Wed., July 24, and runs through Sat., July 27 at Fairoak Pentecostal Church, according to Gayla Ezzell.

The revival will be held at the church, located at 28050 Airline Road, at the intersection of Hwy. 29 and Airline Road, three miles east of Elmore City.

Services will be conducted by “Come to the Cross Ministries.” Rev. Joseph Hunt and family, from Dibble, will be officiating. Services will begin at 7:30 p.m. nightly Wednesday through Friday, and then at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.

“There will be singing, praying, and seeking God’s face. It’s all about Jesus,” Ms. Ezzell explained.

Kayla Blake Thornburg softball tourney set

The second annual Kayla Blake Thornburg memorial co-ed softball tournament is set for Sat., Aug. 10, according to Courtney Register.

The tournament is being held in memory of Ms. Thornburg, a Lindsay resident, who died in May of 2018, at the age of 27. 

Ms. Thornburg leaves behind two sets of twins. Proceeds from the tournament will go to her children.

The tournament begins at 8:00 a.m., and will be held at Griffith Sports Park in Lindsay. The tournament is double elimination. T-shirts will be awarded to the first-place team.

Teams should provide their own ASA approved 12-inch balls. USSSA and ASA bats are allowed. 

Concessions will be available.
